Deciphering the symbolism of this painting
Saturday, 10 February 2024 01:59 amDon't ask me how I ended up there, but I was reading the Wikipedia page for "The Town Musicians of Bremen" where I found out this wall painting by Heinrich-Otto Pieper.

So obviously, the German and the Austro-Hungarian eagles are self descriptive, with the star-crescent standing for Ottomans. It's the Allies that I had trouble with.
Isn't the rooster France's national symbol? It's feathers are also seperated like the French flag. But then the dog beneath it... The only WW1 hat I can think of is the French hat. There's also the bug there that I think represents Italy?? The first grading is quite light so I scratched Belgium out.
Thankfully the bulldog under that has the Union Jack just on it straight away LOL. The crown on the last dog looks like the Russian tsar crown.
SO WHAT'S THE SNAKE SUPPOSED TO BE?
I first thought of Italy for that cross in their flag but then THE BUG?? IDK!
Obviously my knowledge is limited :( I tried searching it up for a while but it's nearly 3AM π Anyway... I'll leave it up here for further inspection later on.
