I am stupid

I usually never do "anniversary" artwork. Across the many fandoms I've been in, I probably have posted a birthday celebration artwork probably once, if any. Because I know I can't make it in time...

Since this semester has a really bad schedule, I barely could find time to do any of my hobbies. That's why I told myself, I'll do this animation idea whenever I have time, so it would take some time, but I could do it little by little!
Then. I realized..... the Ides of March approaching.

The animation I've drafted is about Brutus & Caesar..... so I said, "Hey, what if I actually post it on time for ONCE? That would be nice!" and got to focus on it. Now, I'm kind of a hard-working student and I study daily, writing down my notes, studying beforehand etc. all that jazz... and for this animation, I stopped doing them. IT'S BEEN A WEEK! AND I FEEL SO BAD IGNORING ALL MY "WORK" BECAUSE OF THIS ANIMATION GAHHHHH

It's almost over, and AGAIN I barely made it in time!😭

SO IF I EVER THINK IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE SPECIFIC ART FOR A SPECIFIC DAY
I AIN'T DOING IT

I'm beat

I keep saying this but this semester has the worst schedule yet!
One day 08.30 (in which I have to wake up at 4.35), the next 12.30, then a 10.30, then another at midday... So my sleeping schedule is just ruined. And all the lessons except one day, end after 5pm. Bus takes like an hour... Yeah, I'm always beat whenever I arrive home, and barely can study, if any at all.

I have nearly no time for any drawing, or writing, or to do any other hobbies. I hope a few weeks after, after I'm done with some semester-long homeworks, I'll try to write more here. I missed reading my subscribed journals too! -__-

So yeah, that's about it. But Ramazan (Ramadan) has started two nights ago! I still haven't started reading Qur'an though and I feel bad about it... Like I said, I have no time, but I should make time for it tbh.
But I'm watching a new series called Men of Angelos in English, that's about the Seven Sleepers parable, but it's an Iranian series. It was so refreshing to see Romans in Muslim context haha! And the acting of the main characters are mostly great anyway, even if sets are a bit lacklusting. Hadrian has been mentioned too many times but I feel like we aren't going to see him. xD

I've been trying to find more time between everything that happened during the break, and my classes start again next week. Oh well, anyway; here's another entry for one of my favorite tropes.

#2 - Somewhere in Time by Merline Lovelace
(Goodreads)

This book is just what I wanted when I was looking for a time-travel romance book set during Ancient Rome. Usually with this timeframe, authors seem to make the ML a gladiator, and it annoys me so much; I've talked about this many times before in my journal too. I just want some men in power, damn. And what's worse, I get into a book reading the synopsis thinking there won't be any gladiators, but then they make the ML thrown into the colosseum!

Actually, even in this book, the man ONCE AGAIN ended up fighting in the arena. BUT the first half of this book is JUST SO DAMN FUN that I reread this TWICE only in HALF A YEAR. Something I've never done before (reading the same book in such a short notice).

Our protagonist, a confident American woman who can hold her ground, she was so fun to read. It's also her that travels back in time so that the modern one has to adjust to the old ways. She faces a lot of challenges, and I just loved everyone's reactions to her aircraft, her fighting skills (that I wish we could have seen more, because there's one scene where he throws off the ML and he's so hurt in his pride IT'S SO FUNNY I SWEAR). The soldiers even think she's an Amazon xD

The male lead, I found very fitting to the time frame. His words and way of speaking was authentic to me, and the two had great chemistry! The way he tried to understand her world, the modern inventions, really made me laugh; especially with the difference in their values.

Unfortunately I didn't really enjoy the third act, but this book is still one of my favorites. I am trying to pick up a physical copy and bought twice on thrift bookstores online WHICH NEITHER have arrived. 😐 So I've given up on that.

The reviews are generally below or near average which was a bit surprising. I mean, it's a Silhouette romance at that too, so I wasn't expecting a literary masterpiece. Like someone said it was formulaic. That's the thing with them M&B, Harlequin, Silhouette books y'all 😭 I found it really entertaining, so much that I laughed a lot. I recommend it!

I'm adding my review on Goodreads I've posted after I've read it for the first time below the cut.

Here's the first post for Fannish 50!

I've been writing a fic for Antony/Octavia for quite some time. It's still very incomplete, but I want to share a bit of it. (Yes, I know. It's a bit of an easy move to start with such post, but my excuse is that I'm studying for finals. 😜)

I just think their relationship is nowhere near enough explored. Perhaps it's the fault of a certain English playwright for creating a work where he's head over heels for another, or/and Antony did divorce Octavia quite soon after they tied the knot. But even still, Octavia tried to make it work by her own... and that was where I got the idea to start writing this. As of now, they only have 2 fics on Ao3--and they're not exclusive fics of the ship. (I've excluded HBO Rome because I hate that show; also they're rather "characters" of its own thing, as is mine; and mine have nothing to do with that show.) So I took the matters in my hands... my very slow hands! But I'm trying.

Here's the excerpt from one chapter, where Octavia worries about the integrity of their relationship.

Trust me, I will try to update here regarding my life soon. I also read Fahrenheit 451 very recently and it gave me lots of thoughts about the current events, especially with the unfortunate rise of AI. I would love to put my two cents about it, but I'm really busy, and my midterms are closing in.

But somehow, I managed to write a fic I've been thinking about regarding Mark Antony and Octavian. I took time from sleeping, studying to publish this, but it's finally here! I also did some art for it, so I'll also add it for those who want to only look at the art.

My relationship with Assassin's Creed is a little different.

When I was quite younger, and back when we shared just one computer as a family, my brother was the only one of my siblings that could afford to buy any videogames. One of those games were the Assassin's Creed games. I, on the other hand, remember seeing the series' ads a lot on the internet, and as someone with a life-long interest in history, I've thought it was the coolest thing ever. Not to mention, back then, open-world games were so interesting to me because it was something I've never played before, so obviously, watching him play the first game, jumping around and doing acrobatics, I always wanted to play it AT LEAST ONCE.

So so many years later, I had bought it on Steam, and before I could find time to try it out, this time it was my sister who played it -- telling me she loved it. I remember being preoccupied with some stuff then, and when it was over, I finally played it too.

And it was an absolute disappointment.

I remember thinking, "This is what I died to play?"

The "open-world" was not even that open, and the whole "complete side missions to unlock main story" was SO BAD because all the missions were the same! Not to mention the bonkers fight system...

So after that whole debacle, I gave up on the game for good -- much to my sister's dismay, because she LOVES the Ezio trilogy -- and I wanted to see İstanbul too, but I just can't get myself to play through that horrible game design ever again.

Now, flashback-back to 2024 and 2025 -- I and a moot talk about games involving Ancient Rome, moreso the Octavian era because it's my obsession after I got smitten with Augustus from Civ7. I told them about the game I was playing -- Shadow of Rome, I still haven't finished it -- and we complain about the lack of actual RPG games about Ancient Rome.

In this game, Octavian(us) has a long, Final Fantasy-like anime twink haircut. But you can actually change it into a more period-accurate hair, and he looks so cute with it! And I really like the way they did his face! Look at that nose!

INTERLUDE: SHADOW OF ROME.
I started playing this random ass Capcom game I've never heard of before, just because I saw Octavian is one of the protags. And at first I thought he'd just be a story character but he's actually playable, and to top it off, it's stealth! It is kind of ridiculous now I think about it, but his sections were the fun parts... The constant change between his parts (the actual story happens in his side) and the boring, repeating slashing parts of Agrippa (who's for some reason made into a gladiator of all things) made me take a break off this game.

Seriously though, why are they always 4X games?

Anyway, then they (the mutual) tell me about Origins. I am surprised, I thought it took place in Ancient Greece. Turns out that one was called Odyssey and I just combined them together in my mind. "You can fight Romans" and I'm sold like that.

I was still a bit busy then so it took me a lot of time to play the game. And at first, I didn't like it -- I thought the stealth was so butchered just for the new mechanics. The use of Senu, gear and leveling thingies, currency... I was like "What are all these?!"

I took a break, but then I returned. And I returned for good.

I did my best and actually finished the whole game with the DLCs before the 2nd week of the semester.

I've never realized how studying for your courses daily actually makes midterms easier for you. I only needed to review my notes and otherwise, these past two days (since my 4-day-long midterm week) has just been filled with waiting for the exam hour to arrive. I'm serious.

I had like two hours of waiting for my Spanish exam, and I literally watched the last half of an Astérix LA movie and finished it.
Took three exams today, and now I only have 4 other exams left. And I also finished the book I've been reading to pass the time today too, so I would say today was really productive lol.

I'm not sure if I've ever written it here, but I really enjoy Harlequin books and manga adapted from it. It's like my guilty pleasure, but not super guilty. I just enjoy an easy-read sometimes that's not too complicated when I'm trying to ignore my instructor during class, or if I'm waiting for the bus to arrive... I like romance, so they're perfect for me, idc.

So now that I'm kind of obsessed with Augustus, I wanted to find some Ancient Rome romance books. I wasn't surprised when nearly all of them were gladiator romance, something I ESPECIALLY do NOT want.

I'm not trying to "be different", but gladiators just never did it for me. I mean, sweat glistening, dropping on their skin IS HOT and all, but I don't really think anything else of them. I've never seen the movies about them either HAHA. I'm more interested in soldiers, and I've actually found one that had one! So I started reading it and here are my thoughts. I was thinking about Augustus -- as I do often 😭. I've been rotating him on my mind ever since his character reveal for Civ7. It's kind of funny, because while being very interested in history ever since I've known myself, I've never been too into Ancient Rome stuff. (Leaving that story away for another time.) Anyway, I felt like I needed to write down something to show my appreciation for Roddy McDowall's performance in Cleopatra (1963).

Among all the adaptations of him I've seen; I think Roddy McDowall's portrayal is still the best one. He just gives that annoying little b-tch energy just so well. I can't explain it otherwise. His dialogue is also written accordingly. I LOVE the scene where he talks with Cleopatra and says sth like, "You need not bow your head before Caesar". THAT'S JUST SO HIM HAHAA.

And apparently, he was supposed to be nominated for the Best Supporting Actor, but FOX fumbled and accidentally sent his name for the Best Actor category instead. 🤦‍♀️ Man was robbed.

He definitely nailed that "I'm above everyone else" personality of his while also showing his vulnerabilities (this was literally one of the two portrayals were he's shown being sick) but also calculative, performative and manipulating. To be fair, this also shows how written well his character was, but still, he's the one who brought the character to life so perfectly!

He looks so cute here. ;_;

Anyway, I was looking at his pictures on Google Images -- as you do when a character is the only thing you can think about, and through some straying from website to website, I found out that McDowall was gay. What's funny is it was pretty much widely known, but I'm not too informed on these people (the uh.. classical Hollywood?). And apparently he dated Montgomery Clift too! I feel like I'm late to the party.

Why does he kind of remind me of Jim Carrey here?
