Head empty, only Splinter Cell
Tuesday, 12 April 2022 12:43 am I finally had time to play Splinter Cell and OH BOY was I hooked the whole time I played it!!
If you know me, I love playing stealth games so I always wanted to start this series as well. I'm glad I did!
Graphics wise, I think the game looked good in its time - I'm not one to get too stuck on graphics anyway. If it controls well, I'm okay with it.
Well, let me talk about the controls a bit...
At the beginning, I was a little confused with the HUD, the buttons I needed to use. But it didn't take long 'till I got the hang of it (this is coming from a very slow person). The real problem is the game sometimes doesn't work correctly. Especially jumping gave me quite a hassle and I think I would have rage quitted it many times had it not been for the quicksaving. Honestly, such a life saver, a relief to be able to save at any point. (And I managed to f-ck it up even with that lmfao! I had to backtrack but I realized I saved it on the save I needed to use, so I had to replay the entire level lol ๐ญ)
But when those moves work correctly, the gameplay becomes so much fun! My favorite thing to do was probably using rapple to walk down the walls; really makes me feel like I'm being a spy lol. Also I never had the chance to do it during the game (minus the training level) but seeing your character do a Jean Claude Van Damme between the walls WAS SO ENTERTAINING haha!!
Story was alright I guess. It's nothing spectacular since it's the usual American glorification anyway so I won't delve too much into it and just skip right into the MUSIC. IT WAS SO GOOD.
While writing this I thought to myself. Two of my other favorite stealth games would be Hitman and Metal Gear - yet neither of them hit me as hard as this game with its music. Now I listen to a few MGS tracks (I actually like the MSX music more than the MGS music ๐) but this game makes you get INTO it if that makes sense. Especially the alert themes (along with that piano sound that gave me a heart attack each time it happened) were SO GOOD. I think the thing I'll remember the most about this game will be the music.
I want to quickly adress the variety of gadgets as well but I didn't have many chances to use them early on, since I tried not to rely on equipment that much and wanted to be a sneaky boi as much as possible; however there are some very nice ones like the ring something something I forgot lol. I started using it later on since the levels got a lot harder and it helps a lot. I never used some of them: like the sticky shocker or the sticky camera. Because of my preference like that, I got stuck at some parts and had to check the walkthroughs lol. (I think there was a part where you had to use the diversion camera and I was like "IT DOES THAT???")
Overall I had so much fun and I missed feeling this excited about a video game ๐ I'll try to start the extra missions (that weren't in the Steam version for some reason...?) and finish it completely. It took me like 20 hours to finish the main story, so it was pretty funny to see people finish it in 4 hours with COMPLETE STEALTH.
